Who issues carry permits
Alabama hasn't required a pistol permit since January 1, 2023, but many people still get one for travel. Permits come from the sheriff of the county you live in, and the fees differ:
- Jefferson County: $7.50 per year, up to 5 years ($37.50). Permit page
- St. Clair County: $15 for 1 year, $75 for 5 years, $300 lifetime ($150 lifetime if you're over 60). Permit page
- Shelby County: $20 for 1 year, $125 for 5 years. Permit page
