About Pell City and your carry permit
Pell City is one of St. Clair County's two county seats (Ashville is the other) and sits on I-20 by Logan Martin Lake. The St. Clair County Sheriff has an office in Pell City, which makes getting a permit convenient.
Alabama hasn't required a permit to carry a pistol since January 1, 2023, but a permit still helps if you travel, since some states that honor Alabama permits don't allow permitless carry. Permits come from the sheriff of the county you live in:
Fees: $15 for 1 year, $75 for 5 years, $300 lifetime ($150 lifetime if you're over 60). Apply online (the online system adds a small service fee) or pay cash in person once you're approved. St. Clair County doesn't have a state-run public range, but two are in neighboring counties: the Etowah Public Shooting Range in Etowah County and the Cahaba River WMA Shooting Range in Shelby County.
